In Case You Missed It: A Look Back at 2017 for CloudBees
It feels like just yesterday we were ringing in 2017, getting ready for another exciting chapter in the evolution of DevOps and software delivery. And, what a whirlwind of a year it was! DevOps has now become a common practice in organizations in almost every industry – from aerospace and telecom to financial services and retail. As enterprises tackle increasingly complex software delivery requirements and new technologies, we've also seen the proliferation of DevOps tools grow exponentially. While this made for an exciting year, it also brought with it some challenges. A challenge for tools vendors to keep up with the ever increasing customer demands, and a challenge for enterprises to make sense of all these tools at their disposal. On top of that, the trend towards microservices has proven to be a daunting task as enterprises start to break down their monoliths and legacy architecture into smaller, independent services, all while having to keep their current systems running. We certainly learned a lot as an industry in 2017 and are looking forward to tackling more challenges and rising with the tides in 2018. With all of this in mind, we wanted to reflect a little bit on some of the highlights for CloudBees this past year. From analyst reports to community initatives, here’s what you may have missed:
1. Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Release Automation: CloudBees named a Leader for the 2nd year in a row, positioned highest for execution.
For the second year in a row, we were honored to announce that CloudBees was positioned as a leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for ARA. Gartner’s highly sought-after 2017 Magic Quadrant and Critical Capabilities for ARA considered vendors based on a minimum of three product-related functions, namely 1) Automation 2) Environment Modeling and 3) Release Coordination. From our perspective, these elements support the goal of end-to-end DevOps toolchain orchestration, which enables greater release agility, faster time to production, consistent methods for continual deployment, quality through automation and constant feedback loops.
2.The Forrester Wave™: Continuous Delivery and Release Automation: CloudBees named a Leader
Forrester, a leading independent research firm, ranked CloudBees as a leader in the Q3 Wave report for Continuous Delivery and Release Automation (CDRA). In last year’s Wave, Forrester focused on Application Release Automation (ARA) as a way to deliver applications into production. In 2017, they have expanded the scope of the report to focus on Continuous Delivery Release Automation – a subtle switch, but one which serves CloudBees very well given the breadth of features in our unified Dev-to-Prod automation platform.
3.DevOps Enterprise Summit 2017
What a great year it was for DOES17 ! As always, it was honor to be Founding Partner of the San Francisco event. This year saw almost 1,600 of our DevOps peers, thought leaders and academics join for three nonstop days of action. We were blown away by the caliber of presentations this year covering topics from business buy-in and leadership to architecture and security and compliance. Leaders from companies like Nike, Amazon, Disney, Lockheed Martin, Nationwide Insurance, Starbucks and dozens more humbled all of us with their stories of trials, tribulations, roadblocks and challenges. We truly felt that no matter what our company size or industry was, that we are all on this journey together. It was also great seeing the positive reception to the 20+ sessions in our track – with several sessions standing-room only! If you were able to attend this year, thank you for making DOES17 the best year yet – we hope to see you at DOES18 ! Check out the videos for the EC track below:
