Live from DevOps World | Jenkins World 2019, host Brian Dawson is joined by Aravind Kalavagattu, engineering manager at LendingClub for DevOps Radio episode 63 . Aravind oversees two teams: Engineering Efficiency, a team focused on development productivity, CI/CD tooling and the code review process; and Test Infrastructure and Automation, a team focused on testing strategies and efficiency.

In case you’re unfamiliar with LendingClub , Aravind explains that the company is essentially the Uber for loans, making the borrowing process easier for the borrower. Because it is a technology company powering financial transactions, they are always working toward better innovation and effectiveness with their software. As they continue to work on their software, LendingClub uses DevOps for faster experimentation and a faster feedback loop, leading to accelerated software releases.

Aravind goes on to explain that LendingClub’s pace of adoption has been one of the biggest successes they’ve encountered in their journey to implement CI/CD and DevOps. He details how the company used to follow the traditional model of many teams having their own Jenkins pipelines with various microservices but as they have automated the process with central library-based pipelines, services are now able to get set up quickly and easily.

The conversation wraps with Aravind sharing his book suggestion for anyone who is beginning their journey into modern software development, CI/CD and DevOps: [_The DevOps Handbook](https://www.amazon.com/DevOps-Handbook-World-Class-Reliability-Organizations/dp/1942788002/ref=asc_df_1942788002/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=266244150619&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9888934968213111489&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9001962&hvtargid=pla-568661774152&psc=1) ._ He states that the book helped launch LendingClub’s book club in which employees get together to discuss one chapter per week. The book has introduced several new perspectives for his teams and has helped instill the DevOps mindset during transformation.
