Andre Pino is back in the host’s chair for the latest episode of DevOps Radio featuring Forrester analyst, Rob Stroud. In this episode, Rob shares his thoughts on DevOps, open source, Jenkins and Jenkins World.
At Forrester, Rob drives the DevOps research agenda, from continuous integration/continuous delivery all the way through to production deployment. He started his career in IT operations, then spent time in the security space, ultimately becoming CEO of a startup that was sold to CA Technologies.
Rob talks about a variety of topics, all related to DevOps and the IT industry. One big surprise? Despite the longstanding rumors, mainframes aren’t dead…and Rob shares some interesting stats to prove it. Perhaps even more surprising is that DevOps transformations are accelerating in mainframe environments.
Rob also talks about the gains made in enterprise DevOps adoption. He is now seeing a clear trend to IT operations embracing DevOps, enabling companies to transition from a siloed environment to a collaborative one…which is, of course, what DevOps is all about.
Finally, the discussion turns to the fundamental shift to open source over the last five years. Organizations are embracing it as a vehicle to accelerate software delivery. Companies – even competitors – share and collaborate in open source communities. Rob thinks these principles are underscored at Jenkins World. Jenkins World embodies the tenets of open source: sharing and collaboration around best practices for DevOps and continuous everything. For more insights from Rob, listen to DevOps Radio.
