Building the Right Relationships

Meet Juan Echeverri, senior manager, channels and alliances in Florida

When Juan is in it, he’s in it for the long haul. As senior manager of channels and alliances, Juan Echeverri works tirelessly, bringing CloudBees to customers in the Southeast (US) and Latin American regions – a market he says takes years to cultivate.

"Long-term commitment is key to success. I’ve seen other companies crash and burn because they aren’t committed long term,” he says. "At CloudBees, we know that building the right relationships is not a quick, 12-month turnaround.” This attitude, Juan says, makes all the difference.

Born in Colombia to Colombian parents, and raised partly in the United States, Juan credits his Latin roots for giving him a specialized perspective of what’s needed to develop the Latin American market. Sure, it takes a whole lot of commitment, but Juan says it really comes down to innovation. "Innovation is standard in any market, but the Latin market is one that demands the best at a reasonable price and one that focuses a lot on reputation, especially when it comes to purchasing decisions. With that, we have to be on top of our game,” he explains.

To develop the Latin American market, building partnerships – and trust – is vital. In fact, it’s one of Juan’s biggest tasks as senior manager. "I help bring in new partners to grow our business. At the end of the day, I want to see significant growth in numbers. But that can’t happen without trust.”

Juan says in markets like APAC and Latin America, trust is fundamental and a building block for customer relationships. "Those cultures are built on trust. A lot of their commitment will come from the level of trust they have in you,” he explains. But if there’s a lack of trust within your company, it trickles down very quickly to your customers and partners. "You’ll see how fast it affects your business. After all, if you don’t trust your own company, how are your partners and customers supposed to trust you,” he points out. "But at CloudBees, trust and accountability are at the forefront of our business. Someone once put it this way: ‘I’m not a babysitter, I’m an executive. I hire people to do the job, not look over people’s shoulders.’”

This mentality, Juan says, is part of a greater human factor initiative within the Hive. “We are a very global company – in the truest sense of the word. The mix of ideas and cultures we have here forces us to not just look one way. Instead, we push for the mental and physical well-being of our employees. Because if that comes through, so does productivity, success, and all of that good stuff,” he explains.
