Continuous Discussions (#c9d9) Podcast: Episode 35 - Orchestrating Your DevOps Toolchain
Written by: Electric Bee

Modern software delivery involves many teams, each with their own preferred “tools of the trade” for building, testing and deploying code.
This morning on #c9d9, we talked about the value of integrating these teams and tools in a way that provides shared visibility and control across the end-to-end process with…. (drum roll please) orchestration!
We talked about the differences between orchestration and automation, the value that orchestration provides in regulated industries, and how to foster CAMS (culture, automation, measurement and sharing) within your teams. Michael added a letter to that now-famous acronym… a P… for patience! “If you don’t start this with the understanding it will be a long process,” Michael said, you are in for a disappointment.” So, is PCAMS (or “CAMPS”) now a thing…?
Along the way we had a bunch of other interesting quotes come up… this one in particular is one that I use all the time and nicely sums up the value of creating a reliable, predictable pathway to production.
“Reward firefighting and you’ll create a culture of arsonists ”
And finally, I promised to find an image that captured the most essential message we talked about on the program… to whit:
Michael Chletsos Michael has been straddling the world of Dev and Ops, now working remotely with teams across the world to help improve their workflows. @mpchlets
