The historical origins of our industries excluded many demographics. Companies are now recognizing diversity, equity, and inclusion to be a strategic priority, integral to building a culture that’s reflective of the world in which we live. In the employment arena, organizations are working to remedy the ways in which unconscious bias, algorithmic bias, and non-inclusive language has crept into cultures and impacted everything from hiring to promotion and retention. In this talk we will examine how language is a barrier to diversity, by giving concrete examples and presenting alternatives.
