Meet the Bees: Andrew Bayer

Written by: Hannah Inman

Who are you? What is your role at CloudBees?
I'm Andrew Bayer, a long-time Jenkins contributor and plugin developer. I'm now an engineer at CloudBees working on various Jenkins stuff.

What does a typical day look like for you? What are CloudBees customers like?
My typical day? Lots of responses to emails, conversations on HipChat and IRC, experimenting with new ideas for Jenkins Pipelines, working on upcoming CloudBees features...

What are some of your best tips for developing or testing apps?
Don't invent something you don't need to. Someone else has probably already gotten 80% of the way to what you need - reuse that, extend it, contribute to it. Productive laziness is a virtue!

What is your best memory from working at CloudBees, so far?
Well, I've only been here a few months now, but the company-wide offsite in Mexico in February was great - with a primarily remote/distributed organization like ours, it's wonderful to get the opportunity to actually meet everyone face-to-face.

What is your favorite form of social media and why?
Twitter, because it's a perfect venue for being a curmudgeon.

Something we all have in common these days is the constant use of technology. What’s your favorite gadget and why?
My Kindle. Traveling before the Kindle meant bringing a dozen books for a 10-day trip - now, I just need the Kindle!
