Accelerating Automotive Business Excellence With DevOps. Here's how.”
The journey to transform your delivery in autonomous teams building, automating, and delivering continuously in your embedded world at fast speed is arduous and long. Despite modern paradigms like Agile and DevOps increasingly becoming mainstream in the automotive industry, enterprises still struggle to scale and go faster. In this keynote Forrester analyst Diego Lo Giudice will share:
1. Why "beautiful" cars and trucks need "beautiful" software delivery.
2. Agile, DevOps and cloud market updates and key trends.
3. How to make your continuous delivery pipelines building better and faster.
4. What are AI Infused Applications and What does AI infused DevOps mean for you?

Applying Modern Software Delivery Best Practices in the Automotive Industry
Customer centricity is at the very heart of continuous delivery. Oftentimes, from the perspective of silicon valley and popular myths about software development, it sounds as if it’s so easy: throw the rulebook out the window, start building stuff, and everything will work itself out. Products like those from CloudBees play a pivotal role in the critical path of software delivery management, but they don’t solve the problems themselves. In addition to automation, this requires culture change, planning, trust, and a short feedback loop with customers. In this session, I’ll share some of the experiences I had applying modern software delivery best practices my role prior to CloudBees at ReachNow (which is now part of the joint venture between BMW Group and Daimler AG). We applied a lean software development methodology and agile principles to deliver on-demand mobility services directly to consumers in a continuous cycle--deriving problems, discovering solutions, delivering value. We’ll also draw upon current events taking a look at some of the very real, high-stakes challenges faced when pressures related to market opportunities and issues with quality arise.

KOSTAL's Journey into Automation: Challenges from the World of Automotive Development
Four years into our journey towards Continuous Integration, we have some stories to tell. We've done a lot, encountering many challenges on the way, and yet we continue strong.
In this session, you'll learn all about it, and more:
- What sets automotive development apart?
- How to make your engineers' lives easier?
- How do developers feel about Jenkins?

Business Track: Embedded, get out of bed!
It is the year 2019. Microservices, containers, cloud, continuous delivery, agile methods have conquered the world. And more things to come!
Changes are developed, tested and deployed to customer within minutes in the entire software world.
The entire software world? No. Two villages still resist: embedded and desktop software. Did they oversleep all trends? No, because most of the technologies do not apply to them. Embedded are additionally bound to standards like SPICE, ISOs, MISRA and AUTOSAR. They have hardware in the loop tests. They need to build and flash entire device software. They are left behind, building and testing for days, delivering only after weeks or months.
But is this necessarily the case? In his talk, Harald will show you some ideas from his experiences and his visions how to embrace DevOps ideas also for embedded and desktop software, without exactly using the same technologies and despite all restrictions. So get out of bed and come to the talk!
Harald Göttlicher, Robert Bosch GmbH
1:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Technical Track: DevOps and CD in the embedded/automotive world
"Having short, reproducible build steps are a must have for any continuous delivery pipeline - declarative dependency management in most web centered scenarios. However, in the embedded C and C++ world, declarative dependency management is still relatively new and one big roadblock to fast, reproducible and secure releases.
This talk will show:
- Why package management is a necessity for DevOps
- How, an open source, cross-platform package manager can be can be used for managing dependencies of C/C++ libraries
- How to build a fun application based on libcurl and libgit2 on many platforms
- How Jenkins will be used to orchestrate all this and build on multiple platforms on parallel
Johannes Nicolai, GitHub

Business Track: The real cost of non-automation in system testing
In the past years lots of organizations have made progress in accelerating the build and CI parts of the software delivery chain. The real bottleneck and cost driver is now further down the production stream, particularly in the world of embedded and system development. What are the real cost factors if there is a lack of innovation? Which best practices should be followed and how can you decide what’s most efficient to focus on? The presentation gives an overview of proven patterns and blueprint to overcome historical barriers between development and test to efficiently accelerate feedback loops and increase throughput and quality.
Rainer Heinold, Aservo
2:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Technical Track: How to secure your CI/CD Pipeline with Docker Enterprise
The principle of CI/CD (Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery) is already an important methodology for many organisations development departments to accelerate the speed of development. Parts of CI / CD also find their way into the operational IT infrastructure to better automate system deployments including their management of updates. In this session, you will learn what a Docker Enterprise supported software development pipeline looks like with Docker Content Trust and Docker Trusted Registry Vulnerability Scan. We also will show you a live demo of a development pipeline in action.

Business Track: Development environment as a service
The summoned disruptive change within automotive industry is bleeding down to software development. Where complexity and man power had raised exponentially, those scalability issues do manifest as an ecosystem with increasing complexity. This talk is about how to get back to the roots of software development, enabling developers to focus on their main profession: Writing good quality code.

Technical Track: Managing shared hardware with Jenkins and CloudBees Core
In embedded projects it's often required to run tests with hardware in the loop: development boards, prototypes, ... up to an entire car connected to your CI/CD instance. And most likely there are multiple engineers and teams who want to run their tests there.
In my talk I will provide some tips and tricks about automating shared hardware management inside Jenkins Pipelines. How to properly lock and release resources? How to orchestrate parallel access and how to prioritize jobs? Is it possible to setup CI/CD flows which would still allow engineers to run manual tests on the? And how to do all of that when you have multiple Jenkins instances? Let’s talk about some sweet features in Jenkins and CloudBees Core which can help you with such common use-cases.
