These rolling datacenters now contain over 80 CPU’s to perform hybrid or gasoline engine management, transmission shifting optimization, infotainment (navigation, internet services, smartphone integration), passive safety capabilities (radar / ladar / infrared), and more.
This example illustrates the need for the traditional product-based companies to transform themselves into technology companies, adapting their design, development, test, and compliance skill sets, processes, and tools in order to stay competitive.
Siemens has been enabling companies to manage product life cycles through the TeamCenter Product Lifecycle Management software (PLM) for years. TeamCenter helps customers manage and support the increasing number of components these products contain.
Today, these components all depend on embedded software. So, TeamCenter customers have begun to realize that they have to manage not only physical components , but also the firmware that each of them is running.
