FOSS FAQ

Q: Can I install Jenkins plugins on my master instance?

A: Not with the FOSS Free plan, but you can with the FOSS Premium plan. If you think a plugin is missing, simply create a new request for enhancement (RFE).

Q: We are an Open Source company but would still like to have some private Git/SVN repository or private builds, can we do that?

A: No, not with any of the FOSS Free subscriptions. What you can do, though, is to host the pure FOSS part on a FOSS account and create a commercial account for your proprietary bits and builds.

Q: I love your stuff and am using it to build my project, what do you want me to Tweet?

A: Be creative! And if you really don't know, how about something like, "$PROJECT_NAME is happily building and testing on @CloudBees DEV@cloud! www.cloudbees.com."

Q: I already have my code hosted at GitHub, can I keep it there?

A: Sure! The CloudBees platform is very much à la carte. You can use our Jenkins as a Service and still keep your code hosted at GitHub. A number of our own projects are actually hosted by GitHub for historical reasons and we really like the service.

Q: My project has nothing to do with Java, is this a problem? Aren't you some kind of a Java cult at CloudBees?

A: While we only offer Linux build machines at this point, Jenkins itself is very much language/runtime agnostic! We accept ANY Open Source project, you do not need to have anything to do with Java. Oh, and while we love Java and the JVM, we also like (and use) other languages and runtimes -- including in the ongoing development and maintenance of the CloudBees platform.

Q: I am interested in accepting your free offer, but if I go beyond my build quota will I be billed for the overage?

A: No worries. By default, our system is set up so that once you hit your quota, no new build will run until the start of your next free build minutes period -- which is the first day of the following month. You are not charged at all. Actually, by default, we won't even have a record of your credit card information - we don't ask for it. If you want to go *beyond* your quota, that is when you'll need to share that information with us. But you will be actively involved and will be aware that you are providing billing information to us.

Q: I'd like to not just build and test on the CloudBees platform, but would like to also deploy on RUN@cloud. Am I able to do that within the FOSS Free Program?

A: Yes and no. While we do not have a FOSS Free specific offering for RUN@cloud today, we do have a generic FREE offering that you can use to deploy some applications.

Q: I really think you should be offering feature X/Y/Z to FOSS projects, can you do it?

A: If you feel we could be improving our FOSS offering, please let us know. We are always interested in hearing feedback from both FOSS Free and for-pay customers.
